Summary of Program:
The Oral / Head and Neck Oncology and Microvascular Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship at Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine and Boston Medical Center provides 24 months of intensive clinical exposure to the management of the head and neck oncology patient.
Fellowship training is under the mentorship of Kelly Sayre, DMD, MD, and Marcus Couey, DDS, MD. The primary clinical focus of the program is the ablation and reconstruction of benign and malignant tumors of the head and neck, with special attention to the oral cavity and salivary gland pathology. The reconstructive portion includes specific microvascular and microneural training with an emphasis on microvascular free flaps as well as pedicled and local flaps.
Fellows will be involved in all aspects of patient care, and will have opportunities to undertake both basic science and clinical research. Specifically, fellows will be expected:
To complete at least one clinical research project suitable for publication;
To conduct a self-directed reading program throughout the fellowship;
To attend and present at the weekly multidisciplinary head and neck tumor board conference;
To participate in the education of OMS interns and residents as well as work interactively with rotating medical and dental students.
Please note that the program accepts 1 fellow every 2 years. The next application cycle will be for the 2026 position.
